Bright Bright Sunshiny Day..

Good morning.....

Sam and I have been sitting out on the back porch this morning, enjoying a nice cup of hot coffee.  As we were listening to "The Gaither's" music, the air around us felt so nice.  But then....the Sun began to rise and not only was it Bright outside, but we could feel the heat as it began to set in.

Today's expected temps are going to reach a 100 with a heat index of 107.  Our plans for today are to stay indoors and Peel Pears!! All those pears that we picked a couple of weeks ago have been in the refrigerator (out in the garage) and it is now time to get them peeled.

I'll be making Pear Relish with them, but for now, we are going to freeze the peeled pears and I will finish them in a couple of weeks.

Other News:

My daughter's completed their first week of "Back to school."  Trista is a High School Counselor......Shanda is a Dyslexia Specialist at a Christian Private School.  This is their 26th year in Education.
Some really big changes have been adapted in the school system this year!!!
In Texas......Kids can no longer use their cell phones in school.....  Nor, can they wear Apple watches during the day.
Their phones must be turned off and in their backpacks.  I'm guessing that there are going to be some irritable kiddos for a few weeks... yikes!!

******

I't's gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiny day!

This is about it for this Saturday morning...

Enjoy your day and stay Cool...

  1. It's hot here today too! Hitting 95 with high humidity and we are off to a friends cottage. Fun, but warm!
Good plan to split up the work on the pears - part now, part later... :)
I think the plan for no phones or Apple watches is a good one, but I bet the kids won't agree.

  2. 26 years in education is seriously amazing, Shug! I've never felt led, but sure empathize with those often under-appreciated) educators. Like Mari said, I'll bet the kids won't be happy to lose their electronic leashes; I'm curious, however, if the school has a Resource officer and/or emergency plans in place should an unfortunate "incident" occur. (God forbid!)
    Enjoy those pears!

  3. There are moves afoot in UK to banish iPHones from classrooms. Again, the pupils won't like it but it's a sensible move to make.

  4. It sounds like a nice morning. We just came inside as I could feel the warm air and drinking hot coffee only made me hotter. We’re looking at 108 today. I’m staying home but my husband who is half- lizard will be going out in it with his daughter this afternoon. Have a beautiful day with your hubby.

  5. Good for Texas forbidding cell phones in school!!! We found out that our grands will be attending a school where phones aren't allowed, either, and I'm beyond thrilled to know that. Such a distraction for kids and teachers, too. Stay cool and have a super time with those pears, Shug!

  7. Congratulations to Texas and their cell phone restrictions. Hopefully this will encourage actual conversations among the students rather than having their noses glued to the phones.
Have a great day peeling those pears.

  8. Your morning sounds so lovely, Shug, sitting out there on the porch with Sam and a hot cup of coffee. It's going to be a hot one in your area, and staying inside and peeling pears is a good way to spend the day. Your pears will come in handy, and so good that you are freezing some of them for later. I like the idea of no cell phones on at school, but I do hope they get to check them in between class, as sometimes things come up at home they may need to know about. I hope your daughters have a good school year, and Jess went back this week teaching as well. Nel starts a little later. Enjoy your sunshiny day, Shug.

  9. I love your pretty Victorian style header! How wonderful that your daughters have chosen professions that truly help others! Oh my goodness, no early fall for you! There are a lot of good things about the kids not using their cell phones in school. But they still have them if really needed.

  10. Yay for the new rules at schools there in Texas. Maybe some of those kids will actually begin talking to each other face to face.
Happy peeling. I do so love a good fresh pear...not the kind from the grocery store.
Stay cool. We are suppose to be 102-104F today. We're staying inside too.

  11. It's only 87 here today and the humidity is only at 44%. It's warm but bearable.
Sounds like you have lots of work ahead with those pears. I've never heard of pear relish.
I think that's awesome that they made that rule about cell phones. I think all schools should do that. There is absolutely no need for a child to have a cell phone out while they are in school

  12. Happy Pearing. Love that the phones ane watches need to be away. Will the grownups do the same? Sounds like a good lesson for teacher as well.

  13. Hi dear Shug, the weather here in Montreal is right now in the upper 80's (Fahrenheit) but over the next 6 days it will climb to over 100 degrees...very hot and humid. As far as cellphones go, they are making stricter rules for them in schools here as well! Good thing! Both children and adults sometimes spend too much time on them...even when they are out walking in the street or driving! Not good.
Thank you so much, dear friend, for all you share, and your Victorian floral blog background is gorgeous!

  14. Good idea to stop cell-phones at school.

Did I get this right? You peel and then freeze the pears? I'll try this, we have plenty from our garden. Do you freeze them whole or cut them into cubes?

    God bless.

  15. Shug, sitting on the porch sounds nice...if only we weren't living in a furnace :) It's so hot! And yay for TEXAS! Remember the days when you couldn't even have a calculator? Kids are distracted enough without having a phone in school. They need to learn to function in real life, not by looking down at a screen all the time. But then again...parents do that, so that's what they see 24/7. Have a great Sunday :)

Sunday Shenanigans

I love Sundays!!!   Around here, this is a day that moves a little slower.  I like to think that God Himself pressed the "pause"...
