Weather and the TV

Oh boy....what I am hearing right now sounds like barrels of rain are emptying from the sky.  We are having a "First Alert Weather Day."

The ground in our area is saturated which means there is always danger with having huge trees falling.

It's All about knowing what you are doing!!

For the past three weeks, the TV in our bedroom decided it was going on a silent retreat.  No picture, no sound, no hint of life!

Just a blank screen staring back at us with an occasional pop up box that read "No service."

Sam and I gave it our best. We unplugged, replugged, reset, and even tried talking real sweet to it.  We swapped out the cable box at the store, followed every online troubleshooting tip we could find, and even recruited our son-in-law to come take a look.

He jiggled wires, confirmed the connections, and gave us his best tech-savvy effort. Still, nothing.....  We finally surrendered and bought a brand-new TV, thinking surely this would fix it.

IT DIDN'T!

At this point, we were ready to admit defeat and just hang a picture where the TV was sitting. But, we made one last call to the cable company.  They sent out a repair technician, who arrived around 5:45 last evening. And guess what?  It took him less that five minutes to find the issue. One-Bad-Cable.

That was it......A simple cable?? Out of all the ones we checked and even replaced, wouldn't you know, the one we didn't swap out was the culprit.

Turns out, all it takes is knowing the equipment and knowing what to look for. We didn't have the right eyes or the right tools for this job.

Sam and I both just stood there in disbelief and a bit amused at the whole ordeal.

👀 👀 👀 👀

There is a lesson tucked in this somewhere. Sometimes we try everything under the sun to fix something in life.  Relationships, routines, finances, technology, and it still doesn't work. Not because we are not trying hard enough, but because we don't always know exactly what to look for.

And in those moments, it's always best to go to the ONE who truly knows how things are wired....Our Heavenly Father. He sees what we can't see. He knows exactly where the connection is broken and how to restore it.

Whether it's a cable or a circumstance, sometimes it just takes one small shift guided by the ONE who sees the full picture. Our greatest technician is just a prayer away.

Shug...

  1. Oh my friend! I love this! You always have such an amazing way of looking at situations (which often brings conviction on me, because I don't always) and then you have a gift of taking the ordinary (and sometimes frustrating) days and putting a teaching moment into them. I love that! YOU inspire! xx

  2. historical laughter at the if it works don't touch it, I may have something that closely resembles that picture. so now you have a new TV. keep it or return it? Bob is a Nascar/NHRA fan, in fact all racing and last week end he fussed and fussed because they were not running qualifying on any channel. I said they moved it to streaming on Prime. I saw the ad in my email and asked if you were interested, you said no. anyhow it was a night mare. I have used prime for about 10 years and I know how to watch movies. this was running on LIVE TV on prime that I had no idea they even had.
I did manage to get it up and running at 1:30 and he was watching and fussing, he wanted it to record so he could fast forward. I laid down for a nap, and heard loud words from the living room and it had gone away. I over and hour trying to find out how to find the app and reboot the app, I had already rebooted the TV and that did not work, I will spare details, I did NOT get my nap. the next day he was watching the race and kept saying this is an old race, I have seen this. it was not, it said live from Michagan or wherever.. anyhoo. I really do wish we still had only cable and none of this streaming stuff

  3. Prayer is the best wireless connection we could ever have. God always knows how to get us back on track, doesn't He? Great analogy, Shug, and I'm glad you could get your TV fixed. Blessings!

  5. I'm so glad you got your tv up and running, Shug. It so reminds me of my internet service, which was a similar experience. The technician didn't really know what was happening himself, and he replaced a cable, and that seemed to work. Yes, the only One that really knows the whole big picture is God. How dear that you mentioned this in your story with your eloquent words. I chuckled at that picture of the dirty old monitor, as it gets so dusty down there, and I have a thing about getting on my knees and dusting it often haha. Wow, you are having so much rain! Be safe, Shug, and I hope there's no damage with those trees around your area. So, will you keep your new tv or just return it since everything is working now? Oh, and I love your Header - so many neat things on there. ; )

  7. What a beautiful analysis of your situation, Shug. This post is my inspiration for the day. Turn to God! I absolutely despise "technology" so I don't even attempt to fix something. I just leave it broken unless hubby or one of my kids want to tackle the problem. It's a fault of mine & my tech savvy adult kids go *crazy* with their old-fashioned mom but it is what it is. I admire your stick-to-it-ivism until the problem was solved. Yay you!! ~Andrea xoxo PS. I will pray for your safety in the tumultuous weather you folks are having.

  8. I hope you don't get washed away in the rain and that the big trees stand their ground, Trees are wonderful until there's heavy rain or a howling gale.

  9. Yes, our Great Technician is just a call away. Great analogy and well, you did get a new tv out of it.. (;0)
Praying you will be safe as the earth gets saturated . We could use a bit of the liquid but NOT for a week or two!!!!
We rarely get any rain during the summer, just Hot..Hot..Hot.

  10. I love how this story goes from frustrating tech troubles to a deeper reminder. It’s true—sometimes the simplest fix is the one we overlook, both in gadgets and in life. Your patience paid off, and the way you connect it to faith feels just right. Thanks for sharing this.

  11. It's supposed to be raining here, but none so far. However, it does seem to be clouding over.
Glad you got the tv going and shared a good message from the whole ordeal too!

  12. We're supposed to get some rain too - but need it badly up here in the north. Love the analogy you made here. So true!! And I'm so glad you were able to get the issue figured out. Blessings 💗

  13. That is very true! But good grief, what a story. That dusty box with all the cables looks familiar. :) Makes me sick to look behind the TV cabinet! We have had lots of severe weather days lately but thankfully, nothing bad here at our house. I am so thankful.

  14. You should go out and give talks. Seriously. You had me looking at the problem and then seeing the lesson.
Did you bring back the tv?
I am going to send this to a friend who needs it today!
    I seriously loved this.

  15. Funny story and I love the lesson for today. Very good. We don’t have cable so just use our Wi-Fi for streaming. We don’t watch as much TV as most Americans do I guess and no TV in our bedroom.

Gosh I hope you don’t flood. I’ve heard of those Texas floods. Had a good friend in Brazoria, Texas who lost her home to flooding about 10 years ago. The only moisture we get is when the sprinkler system goes off at 4am every morning.

Thank you for all your wisdom. It is appreciated

  16. I love how you relate everyday events to Christian devotionals!! What a story!! I was hoping there would be an answer at the end, and there was! Well, at least you have a nice new T.V. now. What will you do with the old one? A new blog look!!! I love the boots and southwestern jewelry!! Hey, guess what? A Buckee's is coming here! I remember your one post about it! It opens the last day of June. I can't wait!

  18. Whew! Technology has confounded me all my days; these techs are well worth their weight.
... all the same, yours is the best Life Lesson I've heard in a long time.

  19. What a story!!! Oh my! TV nowadays is a struggle for me...I remember the days when we only had 3 channels and that was it. Life was much more simple then, and the programs were wonderful. And the news was real news, not political mumbo jumbo. And tv's were simple to operate. No cables. Maybe an antenna...anyway, I'm glad your mystery was solved. Now you have a new tv to either return or enjoy. I do hope the rainy weather stops soon for you. We could use some of that rain...just not that much all at once. Take care and stay strong and safe.

  20. Thank you so much for this very valuable lesson, Shug. God bless always.

  21. That sounds typical with the tv. Of course it would be something that simple. I love how you found the lesson in this and that is just so true. Lately I've been having lots of conversations with God about not knowing what the plan is but that I sure wish he would reveal it to me soon
