ER and Shifting Gears.

It's a Good Morning right here in Texas!

BUT:

Yesterday certainly felt like a week rolled into one day! Sam and I spent several hours in the ER after he started having significant pain across his entire abdominal area. It's always unsettling when something just doesn't feel right. Thankfully, we were blessed with a nurse who just so happened to be a good friend of our granddaughter, and she was already familiar with Sam's liver diagnosis. That connection made all the difference. We were very grateful for all of her help.

Once we got back home, Sam rested the remainder of the day, and thankfully, the pain has eased up quite a bit. For now, it's minimal and I'll take that small win any day.

But, let's shift gears and talk about something a littler Sunnier 🌞🌞🌞 Summer!!!!

Can you believe it will officially arrive on Thursday, June 20th?  Feels like it snuck up on us, even though the heat and humidity has been knocking on our door for days now.

Do y'all have any fun Summer plans in the works? I would love to hear about your plans.

As for us..... Sam, Trista, Shanda, Mylee and I will be flying to Colorado mid-July to visit our military family and see their new home.  It's just a short trip, but it's been quite a while since we've seen them and we are all looking so forward to the 4 days we will get to spend with them. My prayer is that Sam will be feeling strong enough to make the journey with us.....It is such a blessing for us, just to be planning this trip.

And finally...I'm wishing your day is filled with all good things. It is important for us to keep one another lifted and leaning into the good of any day.

Shug....xoxo

  1. Awwwww.... poor Sam! And poor you too, Shug, as I know many times it's harder to watch a loved one suffer rather than suffer ourselves. I'm glad you had a familiar face in the emergency room, as familiar faces in times of trouble are always a gift, aren't they. The day my daddy died (1987), he was in ICU & the doctor had called me very early that morning & told me that "today was the day". We got to the hospital about 7am and lo & behold, a close friend that I had gone to nursing school with was dad's nurse that day. Oh my gosh, what a *relief* that was! It made all the difference in the world. So I totally understand how wonderful it was to have a familiar face take care of Sam. Keeping you both in prayer, Andrea xoxo

  3. I was afraid that Sam was having a bad day yesterday when you didn't post yesterday.... which is quite understandable. I've been praying and will continue to do so. Thankful for God's provision in having your granddaughter's friend there as the nurse in the ER. How comforting that had to be.

Your time away next month sounds like fun. Praying Sam is able to make the trip.

  4. I will keep Sam in my prayers. Beautiful photo, Shug! Sounds like you have some good plans for July! I don't travel but I do like to go on walks. However, it will depend on the heat and humidity here in Montreal as to where I do my walking. On comfortable days I do it in nature but on hot and humid days I do my walks in a mall! Not as nice as in nature, but a lot safer. Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend. Sending you and Sam best wishes for good health.

  5. My late sister lived in Colorado and I visited her once. They ended up moving back to California. I’m sure you will have a wonderful time with your family. What a treat! I do hope Sam improves so he can go as well.

No traveling this summer for us. We’re up to our armpits in home improvement and maintenance plus I don’t like leaving my elderly dog. We’ll do some day trips here and there. Actually there is no place I am yearning to go to right now. I’m content.

  6. Prayers for Sam's pain and for complete healing. 🙏🏻💗
You sure have some very fun things planned! We hope to get lots of time up at the lake. Do more golfing. For me - gardening time. And we both want to do some hiking at local trails we've never been. Trying to keep these 'ol bones moving! Lol Blessings to you always dear Friend. xo

  11. Shug, I'm so sorry Sam was in so much pain today, and I hope he is feeling better. That was a pleasant surprise that your nurse happened to be a friend of your granddaughter and was familiar with Sam's condition. You are going to love Colorado. I hear it's beautiful there. My best friend used to live there. Yes, I do have plans this summer to visit my family in So Cal. You always have such a good attitude, Shug, during good times and bad, and you are an inspiration to us all. Take care of yourself along the way, my dear.

  12. Our only plans for the summer are to do our best to stay cool! I'm so glad you are planning for this trip to see your military family, and I'll be praying that Sam will feel much better by then. Such a tough time you're both going through right now. I did love the fact that the nurse at the ER was a good friend of your granddaughter - that does make it so much better! Blessings!

  13. I like the others just hate to hear Sam was in pain. What a God Wink getting a nurse that knows the problem. What son or daughter is in the military? I am glad Sam can go.
I am not a big summer glad - too hot for me. My son turns 50 this year and we are going to meet him halfway and celebrate!

  14. ER's are certainly not my favorite places, but I'm so happy Sam's issues were addressed promptly by a caring knowledgeable nurse.
All digits crossed and prayers said for you ALL to enjoy time together in Colorado ... that's one of my favorite states. As for me and my house, we'll probably just lay low under the air conditioning ..... and count our blessings.

  15. Oh, I am so sorry to hear about the trip to the ER and the pain that Sam was having. Praying for him and also for you, as you deal with these health concerns. I do hope he will be able to make the trip with you all to Colorado. I am sure it will be a blessing for all the family to be together. We do not have any summer plans right now. My hubby is having his own health concerns and we are waiting to meet with the specialist on July 1st to have a better idea of what is happening and what to expect. So until we do that we really can't make any long range plans. It would be nice to get somewhere cooler for the summer so we could enjoy being outdoors more, but I don't see that happening. We are thankful for the AC for sure! Continued prayers for you both. (((Hugs)))
