All about Coffee Cups

 Happy Saturday morning...

I find it to be funny how something so imperfect can feel like comfort.  Things like mismatched or odd shaped coffee cups.

Truthfully, I have never been one who took a great interest in cups.....Until Now!  I do have my faithful cup....the very one that has been held day in and day out. This one has heard my many prayers and it has even warmed my hands on many a cold days. This old timer is a tad bit taller and a little more slim.

Sam's longtime coffee cup on the left..
My coffee cup on the right....

The coffee cups that I have come to love are very odd in shape. They are imperfect and some are taller than they should be, some are rather wide, and other's curve just slightly.... kinda like they are leaning in to hear me whispering in the mornings.

LOL...this one still has the sell tags on it..

Not a clear picture, but this one is Red on the inside of the cup.

These cups bring me a lot of joy and have become the listeners of my morning Ponderings and prayers. Oh goodness, if they only had little ears....they may not have ears, but they do have a language that does speak words of happiness.

Not shown, is what might be my favorite so far.  It reads..."You ARE my sunshine." This mug has found a special place in my heart.  I love that little phrase and it warms my heart more so than the coffee itself warms my body. When grandson "Tucker" was only 8 years old, and diagnosed with Leukemia, he and I would sing "You are my sunshine" over and over again.

These cups come from the Rae Dunn Artisan collection, which is best known for their charming, handcrafted imperfections. Aren't they adorable??

These little cups have flaws, but they remind me that life, just like some coffee cups, doesn't really need to be polished to be precious.  I love the quirky, wobbly, and sometimes wonderfully off-centered parts of these cups and of life.

Here is to my "cup of sunshine" cup and my delicious cup of coffee this morning...

Praying for Blessings for each of you today.

Shug...

  1. Good Saturday morning, dear Shug. I enjoyed seeing your coffee cups and hearing the stories behind each one... especially the Sunshine cup. My dear mom used to sing that song to me when I was little. Thank you for the memories. xx

  2. What a delightful post about coffee cups, Shug. I loved reading it and hearing all about your cups. The memories each cup holds is what makes them special, isn't it. Indeed. ~Andrea xoxo

  3. I love Rae Dunn pieces too. Our daughter gave Bob one that says Robert on it. I don't drink coffee, so none for me!

  4. It's amazing how a simple coffee cup can be so special. I guess maybe it's about the memories?

  5. The associations and memories we make with the things we use give us pleasure and balance.

  6. I never thought about my favorite cup(s) being a careful listener ... but now I'll never forget it. The oldest -- perhaps -- the dearest is the poem "Footsteps" sent to me by a dear friend when we moved from Abilene to Florida. The second emblazed, "Forever Friend" actually makes me think of the Holy Spirit. Tho' it has a wound (chip) near the top I think it's precious. Maybe, as you said, because of its flaw.

  7. I loved seeing your coffee mug collection, Shug, and the sentiment that they are the hearers of so many prayers. We have an eclectic array of mugs, too, and I must admit, I have my favorites. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Your Coffee coffee coffee cup is what I must have, a cup with a bent lip to it. I dropped my favorite cup a few years ago, one I had used for many years and went to thrift stores looking for a new one with a bent lip. I bought two of each of a few, and all of them were 50 cents each. now if I drop the one I drink from daily, I have its twin. I love each and every cup you showed us and went to Amazon and looked at the whole collection by Ray that they sell. The cup I dropped, was the last one of a set that was given to me in 1983, the only expensive cups I ever had. The cost blew my mind back then, more than 40 years ago at 16.99 for the set of two. I brought them into my marriage with at age 40, and he took one and I took the other and about 5 years into our marriage, he sat his on the back bumper of his truck and drove off smashing it to pieces. I think we all love our cups

  10. Hurrah for this post! I buy so many mugs that I guess you could say I collect them. T.J.Maxx and Home Goods have wonderful quirky ones for under $5.00.I have so many that I ran out of room in the cabinet, so had to store the seasonal ones. I just cannot resist them!! I love all of yours! I think my favorite is the first one with the blue coffee writing.

  13. Hello, my friend! What a lovely post this cozy afternoon! You know of my love for coffee cups! I love your thoughts on them and how they can be a comfort to us. I had not thought of that, and it is so very true. You are my Sunshine was my Mom's favorite song. We sang it with her until the very end. I felt her with me tonight, so thank you for that. Hugs!

  14. I love, love, love mugs. I got a new one last weekend. It's amazing. Will post about it soon. To answer your photography question, I have a few questions back....

What kind of camera do you use now? Did you want mirrorless or dslr?

What kind of photography interests you? Macro only? Wildlife? Nature? Sports? People? Street? Something else or a combo?

Do you know what brand you'd like to go with? Canon, Nikon, Sony? OM? Something else?

What's your camera budget? Do you want a kit lens? Or just the body and then buy a lens?

    What is your timeline?

What did you shoot on before? And are you looking to learn manual mode or stay in auto (more point and shoot?)

We can start here to figure out what you're looking for.

  15. Your post got to me in so many ways, Shug. First of all, I love different and unique coffee cups, and I have to change them out often. Also, I used to sing to my children when they were little "you are my sunshine." How dear that you and your beloved grandson would sing that when he was eight years old. The Rae Dunn collection is one of Jess' favorite. The font is whimsical and simple, LOVE it. I like Sam's cup too. It looks charming and sturdy. Your favorite cup is delightful too, Shug. Oh, how I loved this post. Coffee Cups and beautiful songs. There's nothing better than that.

  16. I enjoyed seeing your collection of mugs and what you like. I just LOVE my first cup of coffee in the morning. I have a favorite cup with Minnie Mouse on it - and I have had it about 20 years - I broke the first one - and had to go on Etsy I believe for a replacement.
Perfect size - correct shape - love it.

  17. When I was growing up my dad taught me to play You are my sunshine, on the guitar. I've always loved that song.
My favorite mugs are my Pioneer Woman mugs. I prefer a larger one that holds a good amount of coffee.

  18. Hey Shug. Got your comment. Here are my follow-ups.

Hey Shug. Follow-up questions: When you say you had a good camera, what does good camera mean? How was the camera good for you? Do you recall the model? Is there a chance of you rebuying that same camera? And what is the mount of your current lens? Or, what's the make of the old camera?

    More follow-ups ... What's the budget?

Quick Note: My new lens is manual focus and manual aperture only. My other true macro can be used auto, that said, that lens is discontinued. However, once you answer the above questions, we can find you an option that works for you.
