NEW AND OLD.....

Nothing new is happening around here......

How often I catch myself saying this.

But wait.........I'm gonna think about this for a few minutes!!  *#! hmmmm*#!*#!*#! hmmmm *#!*#!*#! hmmmm *#!*#!*#!

What is it that I'm thinking of when I say "Nothing New is happening around here?"   Is it necessary to wake up each day to something new happening?  The word contentment comes to my mind here!

Learning to be content and thankful for where I am in my life!!

After all..... All new things become Old.   For some people, new things become OLD.... fast!

New things never stay new.....which makes it necessary to enjoy the old.  For example:  I got new tires on my car!  This made me happy just knowing that the new tires, keep me safe.    Now that a month has passed....I never think of those tires.

On June 16th....we celebrated our 43rd anniversary.....beginning our 44th year of marriage is a new excitement......   later on,  I'll be looking forward to making plans for our 44th year celebration, when I should be concentrating on all of the memories being made in our year 43.

Have you ever shopped for a new vehicle?  Wow....so much excitement.   Have you ever said those famous words?  "No drinking or eating in our new car"  OR  "I'm gonna keep this car clean at all times."    After a few months of holding to your word....you pull in a drive thru of a fast food joint, and order the #1 complete with a drink and ketchup for your fries!

The new has worn off on your new car.......and it's now ok to do exactly what it was that you said you were not going to do.
Ut Oh......the New is now old!

The older I get......the more I realize that things do not have to be NEW!  As a matter of fact.....I'm finding that the things of old are more appealing to me than ever before.

Our home is decorated with OLD things.....some items are really OLD.  Old peddle cars, old lace linens, old refurbished furniture, an old antique window, and so on and so on!  I love this look!  The look of years past.

Contentment......yes, this is my word for today!  Being content with my life and the things that surround me.   Concentrating on the moments....the memories of what the NEW day holds.

I'm feeling good......I'm happy......and I'm looking forward to what God has in store for me today!!

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.......HIS mercies never come to and end......they are NEW every morning....new every morning.....Great is HIS Faithfulness."

Blessings to each of you today....

  2. Old is the new "new."
    That is why the majority
of us like to repurpose, buy
    vintage and go junkn'.

Not that brand new is bad.

  3. Words of wisdom. New only lasts for a very short time.

  4. Contentment is a wonderful thing! I'm content and glad you are also. I love antiques, so I definitely like the old things, but I also love the new electronic goodies. We just had a neighborhood garage sale last weekend, and it's unbelievable what you come across and what people ask for.

  5. Here I was thinking... there's nothing new under the sun!
I say that a lot, especially when I scroll through PINTEREST. The place of mal-content.
I'm not surprised anymore when I see something that I've never seen before. I just say, hmmm, wonder why I didn't think of that!
Then, I remember... I didn't think of it, because I'm sitting at the computer scrolling through Pinterest. That's right. Idle hands. Mind numbing.
Today... I sat outside, on a bench, in the shade, HOLDING A BABY, while watching my 3 swimmer LITTLES...swimming. For the first time without an adult IN THE POOL.
    Lots happened in that hour.
    TRUST WAS BUILT.
But the best part... I was out there, without my phone for most of the time, until I got it take a couple of pictures. Then I turned it off and sat there... enjoying the outdoors, the laughing, the kiddos, the kiddos enjoying their first ever romp in the pool, without an adult right there in the water. I enjoyed the baby in the shade, experiencing...outdoors with Oma at 5 mos. old.
All of it was NEW FOR ME. I was content.
I hadn't really thought about it all-- until just now.
    Thanks Shug, for your post!
You my dear IRON Friend, do sharpen ME!

  6. You are so right...what is old is new each time we see or remember or enjoy it! I am content with my life (most of the time...lol) And when I'm not, I think twice about it and realize how lucky I am!

    Blessings,
    Gert

  7. New things don't stay new very long. I have said the same things about not eating in a new car. lol! It's not long before we break that rule! I am very content, as long as I don't read the news. :) But, in spite of how the world's changing, I know God is always in control!
Have a nice weekend and a fun 4th!

  8. Hi Shug, Interesting post... I used to love NEW... The older I get, the more I appreciate OLD.... And you are correct: New doesn't stay new for long!!!!

Hope you and the family are having a wonderful 4th of July holiday today... God Bless our wonderful country ---and I pray that we can get our country back again SOON... We are gradually losing all of our freedoms--which is what the country was based on. I can tell when reading others' thoughts today that many people are very unhappy and uneasy about what is happening. God Bless Us ALL.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  9. Hi Shug!

This is so true! I often look around, at all of my old things that I have had for many, many years . . . and before me, my grandmother, or great-grandmother had for many, many years! I wouldn't give them up for anything . . . especially a NEW anything. Your post made me think about new pair of shoes. I love new shoes, but a really good pair of shoes is much more comfy after about 3 months of walking and wear. Just like life - after we have lived, done a little walking, been around the block a few times, then we are just right, very content, and ready to take on anything the world has to offer!! But you know what they say . . everything old, is new again!! So I guess we shouldn't get to comfy... ;0)

    Hugs,
    Barb

  10. What a wonderful message! I was thinking of trading in my car, but driving out of town one day I started looking through the owner's manual while Double D drove. I learned how to connect my phone to the car's bluetooth! Now I feel like I have a new car again and I'm more than okay with holding on to my 9 year old vehicle. Of course, hubby is glad too.
