Journey of Blogging

As fellow bloggers, it is so nice to know that we can all share information that might help each other through our journey of blogging......

One thing for sure is that I (myself) do not rate any where near the top when it comes to being tech savvy.  I do what I can, I play around with the buttons, and I just try to do my best... Do I get an C+ or an C for just trying?

Sam and I made the decision a few months earlier to go completely wireless in our home....I wrote a post about getting rid of our land line and using our cell phones only....Our laptops are also wireless and we use our MiFi to connect to the internet.  I'm sure that many of you do the same thing....

I really do not understand all the bytes and megabytes that go along with all this wireless stuff, but what I do know is that it is very costly....We are allowed 10 gigabytes each month, which seems like a lot to me.  But, for the past two months we have exceeded our limit by 6 to 8 gigabytes....$10.00 for each gig can add up pretty fast....

I would be interested in knowing how each of you go about using the internet and what kind of service you use in regards to your blogging....dial up?  DSL? Wireless?

It is my understanding that downloading pictures is
one of the things that can really eat up your gigs and  you all know how important it is for us to post pictures on our blog....

I would like to be able to save as much money as I can on our monthly billing....Do any of you have and suggestions or any tricks that you use when it comes to using the internet, posting or downloading pictures??

Wouldn't it be nice to have unlimited access?  It's a necessity when blogging!

  2. Oh My---we have a 'mish mash' of stuff now--and are gradually going wireless. We are also in a rural area --so there aren't many choices for us.. SO--what we have may not help you.

We recently got rid of our land line and our DSL internet.. Had trouble with Frontier and wanted nothing to do with them anymore.

SO--since we didn't want to lose our land line number (for banks, junk calls, etc.)--we got an unlimited plan for a phone from our Verizon (which we have our cellphone with) for about $20 a month.. Works good --and we don't have to EVER give our cell number out to anyone but family/friends.

Since the Verizon MiFi (which we use when we travel)is not big enough for our needs (like yours is not), we added Comcast High Speed Internet (which was about our only other option up here). We do not have Comcast cable TV (since we love our DirecTV) --so the internet costs us more than it would if we had a 'bundle' with Comcast. I think we pay about $60 a month just for the internet. (If we ever went to Comcast TV --which I doubt-- and used their phone and their internet, it would be a better rate.)

Our cell is Verizon --and we're happy with that. The MiFi's are great --but don't play games, don't download a lot of stuff, and stay away from the big forwards on emails (like Power Point, etc.)... I don't think the MiFi's are made for all of the 'extras'... That's why we got the Comcast.

Our total cost here in the boonies of TN is probably $150 a month for everything (cell, MiFi for traveling, land line phone, high speed internet, satellite TV).. It's about the best we can do to have what we want ---AND we got rid of Frontier Telephone... Yeah!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. Ours is similar to Ruth's as we're in Canada too. We've got Shaw Cable for everything and are very pleased with all of it.

  4. Well, I don't know much about the technical things, either. We just got fiber optic connections, that is about 10 times faster then DSL. Most of it is underground, but some is not. They are saying that dial-up is a thing of the past and will not be available for very long, it is just too old fashioned and slow. I know that some companies, like ours, offer bundles. So you can get your T.V. connection, computer, and sometimes phone all in one package and they charge you less that way. Sorry I can't be more help.

  5. If ever anyone was technology challenged it is moi! So I don't know about gigabytes, etc. We have high speed internet service through our land line phone co. which is AT&T. My desktop is considered wireless but is hooked up to the landline and my laptop which I use a lot and daughter's desktop are wireless.

We have cable tv which is a separate bill as is our cell phones. Our internet/land line phone runs around 85 a month. The cable bill is 46 and I'm not sure what our cell phone bill runs on average as it's different each month and our daughter is on the plan as well. Adding it all up, it is fairly pricey I guess. We could do without the cable tv as far as I'm concerned but hubby loves his tv! I can't do without internet service...but he could! So, we keep both!

I suppose when hubby retires or goes off call we could give up the landline phone, but it is sometimes necessary to have now. Plus I don't know about other internet options and since we live in a small town those are limited. I probably need to check into our services a bit more to see if there's a package deal that would save more money. Right now, he gets a little discount with the cell phones through his work.

Good luck with finding a way to have the services you need and save money too! ~Cheryl

  6. I'm wireless thanks to my savvy son who got me a cheap router on Ebay and since I do have unlimited DSL, I'm good to go, no worries! I use a local provider so they are there for me if I have a problem. We too ditched our landline a year ago, and so glad we did!

  7. We due everything through our cable company and it is very inexpensive. No limits on anything. I would be hard pressed to have to watch time or what I downloaded. Hugs, Marty

  12. We have Verizon FIOS with unlimited internet usage. For internet and television cable it's $136/mo. I would never sign up for a service where I have to worry about my usage since I'm on the computer all the time.
