My First Pickleball Experience was most definitely served with a huge side of laughter.
On our recent trip to Colorado, I officially checked something off of my "Learn to do" list. I played Pickleball. Not tennis, not ping-pong, not badminton.....PICKLEBALL.
Before this trip, the only thing I knew about pickleball was that people with cute little visors and matching sneakers played it. I thought this was a sport reserved for people who were very athletic.
My grandson and granddaughter-in-law play this game all the time and they convinced us all to go to the courts and give this game a try. "How hard could it be" is what came to my mind. After all, if you think about it, this game is played on a much smaller court with a little paddle.
BLESS MY OPTIMISTIC HEART.....!!!!
For those who might not know.... ha, there are no pickles involved!!
I had no idea that this "easy" game could make you feel like you're playing a life-sized game of ping-pong and dodging balls as if I was in a fast action movie.. Mostly dodging balls!!
We had a blast, even though I may have been the slowest one on the court and they were having some good laughs about how my moves are a bit amusing. I will admit that they had good reasons to laugh.
The best part? Playing alongside my grandson, his sweet wife and my daughters. Seeing them laugh and cheer me on, made every missed ball worth it. At least, I can say that I've now played the game pickleball.
I loved it.....I enjoyed it.....and I'm already thinking about taking Mylee Jo on in a good pickle ball game. I may not win, but I'll for sure be having a lot of fun......and I hope that next time, someone will bring a jar full of pickles!! lol. 😀
Shug....💛
That sounds like a great game for you youngsters! Last year this time I was away from home recovering from a broken hip --- caused by not paying attention to my lower body when I was exercising. Hopefully I have learned my lesson. :)
ReplyDeleteThat was GREAT! You go girl. I am proud of you. You have such a nice tan too! You are a great sport.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for trying something new, Shug! Pickleball has sure become a popular way for families to have fun together. Hope you get to play again soon and share your experience with us. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteShug! You are brave! Bless your heart; we will do anything for our grandchildren, that's for sure. Plus, now you can say that you have played it! You look like a pro out there! Phil's brother plays, and is trying to get Phil to play. But at 85 and with a bad back, I think not. Why are brothers always challenging each other? Did I tell you how much I love your latest header?
ReplyDeleteNot AGAIN!!! The above comment about Phil is me, Ginny. It says anonymous again.
ReplyDeleteGinny again. You got yourself in a real pickle! Sorry, I couldn't resist it!
ReplyDeleteI don’t know anything about pickleball but have heard about- mostly from other bloggers and my niece’s in Alabama play. So far it hasn’t caught on in my part of California. My sons don’t play - I know no one who does. I had no idea it was played on a court. Gee I’m going to have to look it up. Maybe I can start a new trend here! Haha!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like fun and good cardio workout. Glad you tried something new. 🌹
My goodness we do have pickleball here! But I was checking the prices of a paddle - $250+ All the accessories are too expensive for my blood. I read where Pickleball was started in Washington State and it’s their official game. Nothing like totally being out of the loop.
DeleteWe have so many people playing pickleball here too. They even play it in the gym in our church! Good for you for doing it - and having fun too!!
ReplyDeleteHi Shug, I am so glad 😊 you enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I'm not especially athletic (at all!), so haven't felt led to pick up a paddle. Honestly? I can't get past giggling at the name.
ReplyDeletePickleball seems to be all the rage these days. Glad you had fun and learned something new
ReplyDeleteGood for you for trying something new!
ReplyDeleteYeah Shug! Way to go!! Having fun is the best part!
ReplyDeleteLooks energetic to me, and great fun too. I think I'd enjoy that; although not good at co-ordination. When I tried tennis the ball always missed my racket somehow.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I've never seen a pickleball game. It hasn't really caught on here, I think, though I'm sure it will!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fun - but looks can be deceptive . . . 🤣😂
Our town is supposedly getting a pickleball court also. It's funny how fads come and go, isn't it. I'm so glad you got the chance to try it, Shug. I'm afraid I will have to watch others play, if I ever go to our local court....which I probably won't. *haha* I recently played my first game of chess. That's more my speed. *haha* Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteShug, at least you were a good sport :) I have to admit...I can't find the difference between this new version and tennis. It's all the same to me. Hope you're feeling better! Have a wonderful weekend :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you even trying the new sport. There have been several courts put in in our area. I think I will have to be a spectator for this game. I do love the name though. I wonder how it came to be.
