Good Morning Friends.....Today is
C-H-O-O-S-E day! Choose to smile, choose to be kind, choose to be happy, choose to be YOU!
Extra Hour of Sunlight
I have to tell you....the extra hour of sunlight in the evenings feels like a gift, stretching the day just enough, for me to soak in more of the simple joys of life. Yesterday was a perfect example of the how the sunlight can make a positive impact on us! Sam and I took a ride out to the farm and the sun was still shining, casting a golden glow over the fields.
I never get tired of watching Sam unlock the gate to the entrance of the B'boro Farm. And I love riding on the old dirt path that leads to the back fields.
These old roads have been driven for many, many years and they never disappoint me.
We rolled the truck windows down and let the fresh air in. There's nothing quite like that feeling you get when the crisp air is blowing against your skin. Then you have the scent of the earth, waking up for Spring.. Goodness, this smell reminds me so much of my childhood days, running around on my grandfather's farm.
We noticed that some of the fields had a few visitors over the weekend. PIGS!! Feral Pigs!! They may look like a cute little farm pig, but these animals are very destructive. They dig in the ground, looking for grub worms. In one nights time, they can completely tear up the farmland. Thankfully there are no crops growing in these fields right now.
Back to Daylight Savings time! I know that not all people are big fans of the time change, but for me, DST is more than just an extra hour of daylight......sunlight increases serotonin and I need this feel-good neurotransmitter to help boost my mood and to keep me happy. The Winter season and cloudy days really cause my Serotonin levels to drop. I don't like having Seasonal affective disorder....(SAD)
So yes, I am one of those people who loves daylight savings time. 😊 Having the windows down, sun shining, and fresh air filling my lungs........that's what I like about Daylight Saving Time!
It was a lovely evening and the best part was getting to spend an extra hour of daylight with my Sam!
Happy 25th Anniversary today, to our daughter and son-in-law (Shanda and Tom)
Hope you all have a truly blessed day!
Shug......
Awww...Happy Anniversary to your daughter and son-in-law! Shug, I so enjoy reading when you post about the farm and taking rides with Sam to it. I am also a fan of DST and being able to stay outside longer. We've been having lovely weather here too and I am SO thankful!
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary to Tom and Shanda! If it were warm enough up here to sit outside I would appreciate daylight savings time more. As it is my biological clock is way off.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary to your Shanda and Tom!
ReplyDeleteI am with you - I don't know if I have SAD but I love this time change. If I knew how to make it stay this way I would do it. This feels so much better even though I do have to get used to it.
I love the way you described your ride at the farm.
Sorry about the feral pigs!
Oh, I love when you show us pictures of the farm. It looks like such a peaceful drive, especially with those old back roads. You have so many nice memories of your childhood on your grandfather's farm. And what a sight to see so many pigs! Happy Anniversary to your daughter. What a lovely picture of them.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week, Shug.

What a sentimental journey you and Sam enjoyed along that dirt road! Your mention of remembering long-ago smells reminds me of something my son recently said. "Smell is the most powerful memory trigger."
ReplyDeleteMy Tom struggles with S.A.D., but I'm one of those oddballs who prefers the early dark. Something for everyone, right?!
Ah, yes...smells are definitely a memory trigger. Fresh mowed grass makes me think of my childhood and Daddy cutting our backyard lawn. Damp dried grasses (weeds) in the early morning remind me of the fields at our church camp. When I smell that I always say it smells like Camp.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the destructive feral pigs. How wonderful though to be able to go on that wonderful road into your farm. I could feel the breeze and smell the fresh air right along with you.
Happy anniversary to your sweet daughter and son in law.
I do choose those things too.
Sue
Happy Anniversary to Shanda and Tom!
ReplyDeleteI love the light in the evening too, just not the switching of times! I think we need to just leave it be. :)
It has been so nice to have the extra hour of daylight in the evenings. I agree that spending time in the sun is good for the soul! We have spent so much time indoors this winter I need to do some spring cleaning and have our carpets professionally cleaned. Excited to spend more time outside as things warm up!
ReplyDeletemy inner clock is set to early to bed early to rise, and I like my daylight in the morning. we were walking at 6:30 at sunrise and now sunrise is 7:40, beau doesn't get why we can't walk. it doesn't give another hour, it just moves the clock hands, the sunlight is the same.. here in FL we have sunshine year round, and I took suffer SAD.. dreary days are depressing. I would love to wander on your farm and I have seen the damage those pigs do, they can churn up the ground, acres of it and they are dangerous and can attack also.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to Shanda and Tom..
thecontemplativecat here. I miss driving along farm roads. Can still remember those scents mentioned as well.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t had SAD symptoms since my husband bought me a full spectrum light therapy light that I only use Jan to March when there is no sunshine. I have noticed I can go for longer periods now - it’s been a lifesaver for me!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your positivity today.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear .......
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to your daughter and son-in-law .......
Have a nice day
I'm with you! I enjoy the long evenings where we can sit and enjoy the balcony! We don't drive much, LA, freeways and traffic, but I enjoyed going on your ride down the country road and seeing the pigs. I miss that kind of ride in the country. When I was little, my dad would always take us for a ride in the country after Church on Sunday mornings. We had foothills a few miles away and we so loved going an having a picnic lunch there...Wonderful memory. Thanks for reminding me!! Sending hugs!
ReplyDeleteI saw on a T.V documentary about how these big pigs are wreaking havoc in Texas. Professionals are being paid to go out in trucks at night and shoot them. I love the extra light in the evenings, too!
