Another Family Get-Together

So......we waited until after Christmas to have the "Kidd Family" get-together.....
Can I tell you, it was Wonderful!

My precious dad, who has Alzheimers could not believe that "ALL" those kiddos' belonged to him.
Said, he had no idea that he had that many grandchildren!!  Of course, he probably made that statement at least a dozen times or more.  He even thought that Sam and my two sister-in-loves where his grandchildren!!    How sweet!

Our Sunday School lesson was about caring for the elderly....Out of Love and Respect, this should be something we do with NO questions asked.   Families are suppose to take care of their aging parents and by doing so, it allows the church to care for the aging widows.   This is biblical.

I will be the first to admit, that I allow myself to become frustrated...(sometimes on a daily basis) because my dad can no longer understand anything that you are trying to tell him.   Seems that every single day, I have to tell him the very same thing over and over, and usually it's the same thing that I told him every day for the past month...   I know that several of you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I have to wonder though....how many times did my mom and dad feel like beating their heads up against a wall, because they had to tell me things over and over again, when I was little.   This is
the same thing...my dad is like a child again, and we have to keep telling him things over and over again.

I love this man and I will do all that I can to make his life comfortable for him....      It is very trying at times....but I promise myself that I am going to try, even harder, to be a more patient daughter.

God Bless Him...

  1. Oh, your Dad is so cute and looks completely fine. I know all too well the ravages of Alzheimers. My MIL had it and my husband and I were the overseerers of her care. It was such a difficult journey and does require such patience. Blessings to you as you continue on with your precious Daddy. Hugs!

  3. Shug, I know how difficult it is to deal with an aging parent. Sadly, I lost my patience a couple of times with my mom and now that she's gone I beat myself up over it. She didn't have Alzheimer's, but she did have dementia from the Parkinson's. God bless you for taking care of your dad. Take deep breaths and ask God to give you patience and wisdom. Even if you have to do it every minute. Love your family photos; such a beautiful bunch. Hugs. :)

  4. OH Shug, I can only imagine what you are going through with --with your Dad. G's Mama had some alzheimer-type problems. It was so sad seeing her not be able to remember anything any longer. We too used to tell her the same things over and over. However, before she died, she never did get to the point where she didn't know people. G's Daddy--who is 100-has some memory problems -but they are because of his age and not anything else. He is still sharp most of the time. We are lucky! God Bless you with your Dad.

Do you have a new hair-do and color????? Very pretty.

    Happy New Year.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. These are wonderful pictures, Shug. I know about Alzheimer's, I went through it with my grandmother, it was awful, to look in her eyes and see her not really there. But enough of this, you have a big wonderful family, Happy New Year!!!
