Giver or Taker

Giver or Taker.....There are givers and there are takers in this world.

A giver does whatever it takes to make others happy.....
A big part of a Giver's happiness is in doing for others and trying to make a difference in  life.

On the other hand, a Taker does whatever it takes to make
them feel happy.  Being first is their priority in life and they are seldom wrong about anything.....????

I am definitely a Giver.....I love giving to people and I love helping people....Many times I make personal sacrifices just like many of you do, in order to make someone happy or to turn a frown upside down.

It kinda sounds a bit rude to say that someone is a taker, but truth is truth!

To say one is a Giver just has a better ring to it and it certainly does add character to a person's life....

But.....did you know that there are hidden dangers in being a BIG giver.   When people realize that giving is something that we givers specialize in, then this is what they expect....Most big givers do not even acknowledge the word NO in their vocabulary....As a matter of fact, the word NO is like an unforgivable act in our minds.

I'm not talking about being a money giver, I am merely speaking about being a giver that spends time away from their own family in order to do for others...This in itself is a danger.

Another danger is in giving up your own needs in order to make others happy...   A lot of times, people will begin to EXPECT what  you so willing give.

I am almost positive that I will always be a giver in life and to tell you the truth, I am happy and pleased to be one....However, I am learning to sit back and thoroughly decipher needs rather than wants from those that I do try to help....And..I am learning to do so without having feelings of sadness, like I have just let someone down....

Giving from the heart is a wonderful feeling and this is something that God longs for us to do....being a giver is what makes my heart happy....

My Advise Is.........

Be a Giver and not a taker.....just do so with caution....I promise you that you will be Blessed.

  2. I can totally relate to this! I am also a giver and I was giving so much at our church (time and talents) that I wasn't even taking "alone" time for God; much less my family. Once I slowed down and got my priorities straight, I began feeling more effective in my giving and received more blessings as a result. Thanks for the reminder Shug!

  3. I am a giver, but I do know when to say "enough", so I guess I'm not a huge giver. I do enjoy making others happy. Hope you have a blessed day.

These are definitely words of wisdom. There has to be balance in giving. If it is one sided, then you encourage the other person to be only a taker and use you. Or in some cases you never allow that person to grow and become the independent person the Lord wants them to be.
But when all is said and done-I would still rather have been known for giving, than taking!

  5. Our job is being givers, as we are deacons. And I love it, I love being a giver and helping. But there are people who take advantage of it, and people who are very ungrateful, like we have all the time in the world to do just for them and it should be expected. Now most people are not this way, but some are. So I have had to just draw the line somewhere. But I still feel bad when I do!!!

  8. For years I was a giver in never being able to say no to others.I had to realize that the world will not stop turning if I say no.It was agreeing change.I still feel that I am a people pleaser and love to give, but within reason.

  9. Funny that you post this. I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I'm a giver too. Sometimes, like you said, I do NOT exercise caution. It's not monetary generally. It's emotional.

    This is a great post.

  10. Hi Shug, Great post today... I too am a Giver--have always been. BUT--these days in our country, I see WAY too many takers--who want the Govt. to take care of them and their needs. They don't want to work --but they'll take all they can get from the Govt. and us taxpayers... Scary!!!!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. I saw Betsy's comment above and I wholeheartedly agree. Too many takers in our country anymore. I'm a giver, I've never been comfortable being a taker.

And I'm staying up too late. We've had some storms come through and I couldn't sleep. Wish I could send some of this rain down to Texas! Take care!
