Flub Dub

So...It was mess up Tuesday for me this week!   I was so pumped and all excited about starting up breakfast again.  (I kinda took the Summer off)  During the school year, I cook breakfast every single morning for everyone in the family.  They stop by on their way to school and grab something to eat.

Sometimes I cook breakfast burritos or biscuits and bacon, and then sometimes it is as simple as muffins and milk or juice.

It seems that the most requested item is Sausage Balls. All of the kids love them and I must say that they are so simple to fix.  I have this NO FAIL recipe or so I thought

Of course, we all make mistakes from time to time.  After all, making mistakes is a common part of life.  I mean, let's face it...to err is human... right?

I was going to start the year off right and make them their favorite.  I really prefer to mix them up and roll out the little balls the night before.  The next morning, all I have to do is place them in the oven and then cook tray after tray of these wonderful tasting balls of sausage, bisquick, and CHEESE!

Well, this is exactly what I did.  I mixed them up, rolled them into balls and put them in the refrigerator.  I was all set, ready to go to bed and get a good nights rest.

I woke up early on Tuesday morning and the first thing I did was to turn the oven on.  I then carefully placed two trays in the oven and went on about my business of making sure everything else was ready for the kids to come by.

Finally, all the Sausage Balls were cooked.  Beautiful, crispy, golden brown sausage balls!  I took a bite of one of them and I could tell something was not right.   I reluctantly tasted of another one, but was still very disappointed.  My first thought was......goodness, my taste buds are not working.  Oh well, I thought...The kids will be extremely excited.....

Ty and Tyler came by and got them a plate to go, then came Trista, Tucker, Tori, and Carson.  They each got a plate full to carry with them.  Taylor even took extra sausage balls to share with the trainers at school...Then came Trey, Shanda and Mylee.

In just a short time, Trey said..."Sugar, next time put cheese in the inside of these sausage balls."  OMG.....it was like a light bulb just turned on in my head.   I forgot to add the stinking cheese.  Two cups full to be exact.  What on earth was I thinking.  How can you fix sausage balls without cheese?  Duh....that is the reason that they tasted so blah..

I was so embarrassed!  I sent all the other kids off with these horrible tasting sausage balls.  I am almost positive that the little round things ended up in the trash.  I can only hope that Taylor was being selfish that day and did not share  any of hers with the other students.

I'm thinking.... that I will give them another try in the morning and see if I can't do a better job....

Shug....

Lesson learned:  Don't have so much on your thinking plate that you forget the cheese in the sausage balls!!

  1. I must comment this morning since I've made your sausage balls and my husband loved them. Forgetting the cheese has nothing to do with age??? I thought you were not cooking breakfast every morning this year. I think you should cut back to 3 days a week. Have a Good One!!

  4. I am so thankful for the honesty of a child. You can count on Trey to tell what NEEDS to be told. Plus, I really didn't have the heart to tell my precious mom that those "sausage balls" tasted like cornbread balls. lol
